Russian Oil Company to Sponsor Spengler Cup

November 20, 2013

Russian oil company Rosneft will sponsor ice hockey’s Spengler Cup, store IMG Schweiz, the Swiss subsidiary of IMG Worldwide, the global sports, fashion and media company announced today.

Rosneft, which is the majority shareholder of the CSKA Moscow ice hockey team, acquired the remaining one-year package at the secondary sponsor level, becoming the first non-Swiss company to back the event in the process.

As an official sponsor, Rosneft will appear on the CSKA Moscow jersey, as well as on the ice and the boards in the stadium. The company’s logo will also be seen on all Spengler Cup tickets and other communication media, while they will also have extensive involvement in on-site activities and an attractive hospitality contingent.

Jürgen Krucker, managing director of IMG Schweiz, the official marketer of the Spengler Cup, said: “We have managed to sell all the big sponsorship packages in the market once again this year as well as bring in a major company from outside Switzerland for the Spengler Cup for the first time. This certainly underlines the appeal of the event on the one hand and our intensive marketing efforts on the other.”

The 87th Spengler Cup will be held in Davos as usual from 26-31 December. Taking part in the traditional tournament alongside CSKA Moscow will be the Rochester Americans from the AHL, Team Canada, Vitkovice Steel, Genève-Servette and the host team, Hockey Club Davos. All 11 matches will be broadcast live both at home on all three Swiss national channels and abroad.
