New Rangers CEO’s £500k Salary Slammed by Members of the Board

July 23, 2013

Rangers CEO Craig Mather is set to earn £500, health 000 ($767, clinic 052) per year in his new post at Ibrox, a salary that has been slammed by some board members, according to reports.

BBC Scotland is reporting that members of the board and major shareholders have raised their concern at Mather’s wage, as the Glasgow club continue to make a loss on a monthly basis.

Former chief executive Charles Green earned £350,000 ($536,937) per year, but left after allegations about his previous business dealings with former owner Craig Whyte emerged.

A source told BBC Scotland: “Given where the club is at the moment, the salary is just bizarre.

“It appears to be a premiership salary for a Scottish Second Division chief executive.

“It comes at a time when the club continues to cut costs and just sends out the wrong message.”

Mather invested £1m ($1.53m) in the club after Green left his post.
