The Manulife Financial LPGA Classic has announced that Blackberry’s maker, Research In Motion (RIM) will be a sponsor at the tournament.

RIM will help showcase Waterloo Region as a leader in technological innovation by showcasing their latest products and technologies to the 55,000 expected spectators throughout the week. RIM will also give attendees scoreupdates and other news alerts on their BlackBerry devices throughout tournament week.

Also, RIM will be the title sponsor of the BlackBerry Pro-Am Event. The BlackBerry Pro-Am Event, to be held Tuesday, June 19th at the Waterloo Inn, will be the social kickoff event of the tournament, marking a festive gathering of tournament supporters, local dignitaries and the stars of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour.

“We’re proud to be associated with this exciting world class event,” says Andrew MacLeod, RIM Managing Director for Canada. “Sponsoring the BlackBerry Pro-Am Event is a great way to celebrate all that the region has to offer and to extend our hospitality to the supporters, participants and dignitaries who will be visiting Waterloo.”

“The Manulife Financial LPGA Classic is thrilled for Research In Motion to be a major part of the tournament in our inaugural year,” says Tournament Director Richard Kuypers. “We are proud to be partnering with a company from right here in Waterloo Region that represents some of the leading products from across the world.”
