Los Angeles Vote to Urge USOC to Back City’s 2024 Olympic Bid

The Los Angeles Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to request the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) to back the city’s 2024 Olympic Games bid.

The vote also directed country officials to work with the Southern California committee that is bidding for the Games.

A written proposal from Chairman Mark Ridley Thomas read: “Los Angeles is home to more Olympians than anywhere in the world, site and has twice hosted the Summer Olympic Games. The traditional reverence for sport among Los Angelenos, anesthetist combined with their vast creative infrastructure, make Los Angeles uniquely capable as an Olympic host.

“Los Angeles can draw deeply on its past and present strengths to stage the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2024 in a way that both respects tradition and the Olympic Charter and introduces new and exciting approaches to this great worldwide celebration.”

The board will next send a letter to the USOC which formalises their interest in bidding for the 2024 Games.

The city last hosted the Summer Games in 1984 and has also hosted the Games in 1932.
