Los Angeles Favourites to Replace Boston as U.S. Candidate City for 2024 Olympics

July 28, 2015

Los Angeles has become the favourite to succeed Boston as the United States’ candidate city to host the 2024 Olympic Games.

Boston beat L.A. to the candidacy in January but officially pulled out of the bidding process yesterday.

L.A. has now been tipped as USA’s best chance of securing the Games with the infrastructure in place from previous Olympics in the city.

Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti is expected to resume talks with the Unites States Olympic Committe (USOC) to once again put the city forward to host the 2024 Games.

Garcetti issued a statement moments after Boston pulled out of the running saying: “I continue to believe that Los Angeles is the ideal Olympic city. I would be happy to engage in discussions with the USOC about how to present the strongest and most fiscally responsible bid on behalf of our city and nation.”

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) appear unmoved by Boston’s withdrawal and expect the U.S. to put another candidate city forward.

“We are confident that the US will make the right choice and that they can still put forward a strong candidate by 15 September,” the IOC said in a statement.
