iON Signs Rallycross Drivers Doran & Solberg to Endorsement Deals

April 25, 2014

Point of view camera maker iON America has announced the signings of FIA World Rallycross Championship drivers Liam Doran and Petter Solberg to multi-year endorsement deals.

The dual signings of Doran and Solberg is the second major World RX announcement as earlier this week, iON Cameras signed on to become the Official Camera of World RX and the Official Partner of the Championship’s new Spotters’ Tower.

Solberg was introduced to racing at a young age. He first debuted in the 1998 World Rally Championship and in 2003 became the first Norwegian to win the World Rally Championship.  In his career, Solberg has amassed 13 WRC victories.

“iON is an up and coming brand working in a very competitive industry” added Solberg.  “Fans will finally be able to see the world of racing like they have never seen before.  World Rallycross is going to be an opportunity to produce exciting content.”

Doran, one of the leading athletes in off-road motorsports racing and a two-time X Games gold medalist, burst onto the racing scene as a 14 year old in 2000 when he competed in a junior mini rallycross race.  His career took off with a gold medal finish in the 2011 Rally Car Racing X Games competition.  He also took home the gold medal in the 2013 X Games Rallycross event.

“Rallycross is an incredibly fast and aggressive sport, and we need the best possible products and support to have a chance of winning,” said Doran.  “We have been lucky to work with some fantastic companies so far, and the deals this season undoubtedly make my job of pushing the team and making the car faster much easier.”

“When we first decided to partner with World RX, our vision was to bring the fans closer to the sport,” said Giovanni Tomaselli, CEO at iON Cameras LLC.  “Both Liam and Petter have emerged as major forces on rallycross’s biggest stage.  Throughout each competition, both gentleman have displayed supreme athleticism and skills and now by utilising the iON technology, all fans will have the opportunity to experience exciting content from both drivers as they compete for the World RX title.”
