June 2, 2011

INFLUENCE, treat the specialist marketing and sponsorship agency, abortion exclusively appointed by Bloodhound to secure commercial partners for its 2013 World Land Speed Record attempt, has delivered Rolex as the first major brand partner for the project.

Rolex will be a major sponsor and Official Timing Partner to Bloodhound’s World Land Speed Record attempt, which will see the team focus on setting a new record of 1,000mph.  The project led by Richard Noble OBE has a bold educational element that aims to encourage students globally to study Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics – to date 4,332 schools, colleges and universities are engaged reaching 1.5m students.  Wing Commander Andy Green OBE will drive the car with the aim of breaking the current record of 763mph that he set in 1997 with Thrust SSC.

Rolex will support the team over the next three year’s as the British based project gears up for a 6-month assault on the record in South Africa in 2013.  As Official Timing Partner, Rolex is re-igniting a relationship with the World Land Speed Record first established in the 1920s with Sir Malcolm Campbell, who was one of Rolex’s first brand ambassadors.

Richard Noble, Project Director of Bloodhound, said: “We appointed INFLUENCE due to their strong track record in global sports sponsorship and their unrivalled understanding of the automotive and motorsport sector.  They have done a superb job for us and as a result, it is hugely exciting to welcome Rolex to the team not only because they will play an instrumental role in helping us achieve our objective and vision but also because the fit between both organisations is so good.  This will be true partnership!”

Alistair Watkins, Founding Partner of INFLUENCE, said: “We are delighted that Rolex will become Official Timing Partner to Bloodhound’s Land Speed Record attempt and it has been a pleasure working with Richard and the team over the course of the last six months.  This is unique project and one of the challenges has been to map out the commercial rights and make the offering for global brands comparable with other world class sporting opportunities.   Like all the best sponsorships there has to be a good fit between the brand and the rights holder and given the heritage of Rolex and the track record of Andy and Richard, who together have held the World Land Speed Record for 27 years, I am very confident this is the start of a very strong and mutually beneficial partnership.  We look forward to working with them to complete the partner family – this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get involved with a truly inspirational project”.
