Regarding your discussion... It certainly seems like this is the way. The scandals affecting all the sports you have mentioned are tarnishing their reputation and making them a less attractive proposition for potential sponsorship deals. Although cycling has not had any level of controversy, it does not hold the same level of financial security as sports such as football and rugby for example so i highly doubt sports sponsorship companies will be put of these sports that much. Money rules the roost in sport. Business is business. But the affected sports will have to clean up their image or sponsorship companies may pull out, but will inevitably be replaced by another lucrative sponsor.
