FOX Sports & Omnigon Partner to Create New Soccer Tool for World Cup

June 11, 2014

FOX Sports has agreed a partnership with digital consulting firm Omnigon to create MatchTrax, clinic a second screen data visualization tool for soccer matches.

Debuting this week in advance of the start of the FIFA World Cup, recipe MatchTrax will bring soccer fans closer to the on-field action with live commentary, statistics, social media engagement, and more.

Beginning June 12, this completely immersive mobile and desktop second screen experience will enable fans to live every single pass, shot, goal and shoot-out of the 2014 FIFA World Cup as if they were in Brazil.

MatchTrax will feature:

  • Live Match Commentary – Follow the match with expert play-by-play commentary, as well as tweets and comments from fellow fans.
  • Real-Time Field Views – Check out formations and average positions, goals and shots, and shoot-out visualizations.
  • Leaderboard and Statistics – Review all team and player data, including goals, shots, assists, corner kicks and touches.
  • Hash Clash – In addition to the on-field competition, fans will be able to participate in match discussion and see, in real time, the winner of each match’s social media battle.

“Interest in the World Cup has never been greater, so we wanted to create an exciting digital product that fans could use to follow the action,” said Pete Vlastelica, Executive Vice President, Digital, FOX Sports. “MatchTrax has a lot of great features that will keep fans engaged throughout the tournament. It’s a good start for us, as we prepare to super serve soccer fans for the next eight years.”

Beginning in 2015, FOX Sports will have exclusive rights to the next four FIFA World Cups, with the men’s tournaments in 2018 and 2022 and the women’s tournaments in 2015 and 2019.

“As part of our ongoing relationship with FOX Sports to engage consumers and bring them closer to the action, MatchTrax was created to totally immerse soccer fans in a complete, virtual World Cup experience,” said David Nugent, Partner, Business Development, at Omnigon. “We are proud to partner with FOX Sports and look forward to bringing more exciting, digital experiences through to their fans in the future.”
