British Tennis Star Heather Watson Joins HSBC as Ambassador

April 24, 2013

Heather Watson, current British No 2, has joined banking and financial institute, HSBC as ambassador.

She will join former British No 1 Tim Henman, who has been in the role since 2008. The pair will work across HSBC’s Wimbledon activity throughout 2013 and during The Championships themselves (24 June – 7 July 2013).

Giles Morgan, Group Head of Sponsorship and Events, HSBC Holdings plc, said: “HSBC is proud to be the official banking partner to Wimbledon, one of the most famous sporting events in the world. In our sixth year as a partner to The Championships, we are delighted to welcome Heather Watson on board as an ambassador for HSBC. Heather is an outstanding talent and will bring a vibrant dimension to our Wimbledon campaign.

“We are also thrilled to continue our long standing relationship with Tim, who is an excellent role model for tennis and sport in general. Tim and Heather are an inspiration for the next generation of British tennis and we look forward to working with them to introduce more youngsters to the game.”

Speaking on her appointment Heather said: “I am really excited about my new partnership with HSBC and looking forward to working with such a global company. It should be a lot of fun and together we will be doing some cool activities that will allow me to interact directly with kids just taking up the game and tennis fans all around the world.”

Long-standing HSBC ambassador Tim retired from professional tennis in late 2007, but he remains active in the ATP Champions Tour. He said: “I’m delighted to be continuing my partnership with HSBC. I’ve been associated with the bank since I was eight years old playing short tennis and I was extremely fortunate to have HSBC’s support as a professional player. I’m now very proud to be an ambassador for them.”

Heather and Tim will make a number of personal appearances over the coming months and will front HSBC’s digital campaign presence on The Championships website; Wimbledon.com.
