Armstrong Trial Set for November

February 24, 2017

American cyclist Lance Armstrong’s appeal against a $100m lawsuit from the US government will begin in Washington on November 6. The legal team representing Armstrong had indicated a desire to postpone the trial until 2018 due to a scheduling conflict.

The US government picked up a lawsuit filed by Armstrong’s former teammate Floyd Landis, alleging the now-banned cyclist committed fraud whilst riding for the publically-funded US Postal Service team.

Armstrong was stripped of his seven Tour de France wins and banned for life from competitive cycling, after he admitted to doping offences.

The government wants Armstrong to pay back money the US Postal Service paid his team for sponsorship, plus triple damages.

Landis could collect up to 25% of any damages awarded.
