Airbnb Acquires Naming Rights to Basketball Australia’s Men’s National Team

July 24, 2014

Basketball Australia has signed a new partnership with community-driven hospitality provider Airbnb becoming the naming rights sponsor to the men’s national team program.

As part of the deal, medstore Airbnb will become the naming rights sponsor to the Australian Boomers, apoplectic Under 19 Emus and Under 17 men’s team, as well as a major sponsor of Basketball Australia.

Basketball Australia Chair Scott Derwin said to secure a naming rights sponsor with an organisation with the calibre and global reach of Airbnb was a ringing endorsement of Australian basketball.

“Basketball Australia is very proud to have Airbnb – an organisation boasting tremendous recognition and popularity worldwide – throw significant weight behind the Boomers and our men’s national team program,” Mr Derwin said.

“The Boomers are enjoying massive popularity with the phenomenal success of our athletes in competition both at home and abroad, so this partnership with Airbnb is a natural fit – particularly considering the strong sense of community between these two brands.

“Most importantly, the corporate support provided by Airbnb will be invaluable to Basketball Australia’s men’s national team program as we ramp up preparations for the 2014 FIBA World Cup and the road to the Rio Olympic Games.”

Airbnb Country Manager – Australia and New Zealand Sam McDonagh said: “As an international company Airbnb teaming up with the Australian Boomers and the men’s national team program couldn’t come at a better time, with Australian basketball coming to the forefront on the global stage with the recent NBA success of Patty Mills and Aron Baynes and the high draft selection of Dante Exum.

“Be it a Waterfront Retreat in Cottage Point, a yacht in Spain, or beyond, Airbnb has the most interesting properties for the most adoring fans, and we’re able to find new ways to connect the community, so they can feel the sense of belonging, anywhere in the world.

“We are eager to announce this partnership, as fans are gearing up for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain this August, visit Airbnb to find the best places to stay and cheer.

“We are certain the Airbnb Boomers will be creating some meaningful memories of their own in 2014 and Boomers fans will now be able to share in the Airbnb experience more than ever.”
